Grace and Peace UBC!

It has been so amazing for me to watch all that God has done through Union Baptist Church during the tenure of Pastor Kenneth Ray Hammond. I joined Union in 1996 when I moved to Durham to attend Duke Divinity School. In July 1999, I was ordained at Union. Today I am blessed to be married to an amazing woman, Dr. Monica Rivers, and grateful to be the father of two wonderful children, Prince (“Cory”) and Julienne. As it was for Joshua who came after Moses, it would be an honor for me to continue the distinguished leadership that Reverend Hammond established over more than two decades of service. We are living in uncertain times politically, socially and economically. It is vital that Union continues to be a prayer-powered, Spirit-led, Christ-centered and community-minded church. People still need the hope of Christ and the peace of God.

I come to you as a servant leader who strives to magnify God and preach the life changing, liberating Good News of Jesus Christ. With God’s help and your prayers, I look forward to being a part of the wonderful work God is doing at UBC. Together, we will serve each generation both within and beyond the church walls. We will make disciples and touch lives through ministry. We will do justice and walk humbly with God as we build on Union’s rich legacy to ensure its bright future.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace as we trust in Him, so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

Yours in Christ,
Prince Raney Rivers
