On Sunday, March 12, 2017, the grand ballroom of the Sheraton Imperial in the RTP area between Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina was transformed into a grand worship service for the purpose of hearing the word as was delivered from the pastor search committee of Union Baptist Church. Michael Jones served as the chairman of that committee and presented the results of the church body vote once the candidate delivered a soul-stirring message.
Ninety-eight percent of the members attending this special service and call meeting voted to accept Reverend Prince Raney Rivers as our next senior pastor. Here is the biography of our new Pastor-Elect, Rev. Rivers:
The Reverend Prince Raney Rivers is the Senior Pastor of United Metropolitan Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Since being called to serve as pastor of United Metropolitan Baptist Church, Reverend Rivers has endeavored to offer innovative Christian leadership that enables people within and beyond the church to experience and respond to the gracious love of God. To that end, United Metropolitan developed new ministries and enhanced existing ones. Reverend Rivers is passionate about equipping Christians to grow spiritually, Christian leadership, preaching God’s Word and mentoring ministers. He has delivered lectures and sermons in churches, at colleges and universities. Reverend Rivers received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Morehouse College where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society; earned a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and completed the Harvard Divinity School Summer Leadership Institute. He was a fellow of the Pastor-Theologian Program at Princeton Theological Seminary.
He is currently enrolled in a Ph.D program in Leadership Studies at A&T State University. Reverend Rivers currently serves as Fourth Vice President of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc.; a member of the Board of Directors, United Metropolitan Ministries; Duke Divinity School Board of Visitors Emeritus; Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership and the Board of Visitors of Winston-Salem State University. He is Inaugural Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of Forsyth Promise, a public education initiative to promote excellence “from cradle to career.” He has published several publications and has lectured in the Gardner Taylor Lecture Series at Duke Divinity School, the James A. Gray Symposium, Winston-Salem University and many others.
He joyfully shares life and ministry with his wife, Dr. Monica Corbitt Rivers and they are the parents of a son and a daughter.
